Spring may finally be here ! Some years we forget that we are only about 25 miles south of the 45th parallel and Spring comes later and Winter earlier up here. But after a few sunny days, most of the snow has gone, the red-winged blackbirds and goldfinches are back, and the sheep and chickens are searching for every tiny green blade of grass they can find. Guess we are not the only ones who welcome Spring.
The sunny afternoons find every one going "solar" laying out in the sun, Yuri the barn cat, the sheep and even a couple of garter snakes were sunning them selves on a small rise in the barnyard. One of the Buckeye roosters had his first encounter with a snake. I am not sure who jumped back farther, the Roo or the snake ! The snake uncoiled and went his way, and the Roo ran off in the other direction.
I went to the garden, and I found the first shoots coming up. Garlic chives beat everything, including the regular garlic which is still hiding under its straw mulch for a few more days.
It is so nice to see green again, even if it is only about an inch tall. I found a cluster of bulblets that had just started to root, scooped them up and potted them and they have the place of honor in our sunny southern window. I am envisioning a baked potato with chopped garlic chives on it's sour cream dressing. Yummy.
Next weekend will be a weekend of "newness". Our first lambs could be born by then, we will be putting our first Buckeye eggs in the incubator, and our first pigs are coming home. Stay tuned for an update on the excitement coming here on Red Trillium Farm.

Greetings from the Farm
Hello !
There are going to be some changes on the farm this year, some sad goodbyes true, but also some new projects. We thought we'd share our adventures, successes, failures and the things we really love about living on our little farm.
You will soon meet our cast of characters and go through the year with us. We hope you will find these posts interesting, and if not, at least get a good laugh from them.
Enjoy !
